Welcome to our new format newsletter and our new season for 2026/27. We may have been quiet over winter but we have been busy behind the season, getting ready for the upcoming season.
Thank you to the Members that attended our AGM on the 4th of August 2026. Our Committee was elected for the season.

Your Committee has been working hard behind the scenes arranging the calendar and volunteers for the upcoming season.
This season, there have been a few slight changes to our usual schedule. The International 14 Nationals, hosted by PDSC, are being held a week later than the normal championship season, from 4–9 January. As a result, normal club sailing will resume a week later in January.
We have also had to make some adjustments due to SailGP moving to mid-February, as well as fitting our sailing program around other yacht club special event bookings. With all these moving pieces, preparing this year’s calendar has certainly not been straightforward!
A big thank you also goes to the Class Captains and Presidents who attended our Class Captains meeting the week after the AGM. Your input and feedback were invaluable in helping us plan the season and develop a sailing program that works for our various fleets.
Alongside the calendar planning, the Management Committee has also been working on our volunteer roster, both on the water and on shore. We are looking at running a Safety Boat Operator Course to ensure our on-water volunteers are appropriately trained and have opportunities to upskill.
We are still looking for some key volunteers, particularly for the canteen. More information about what is involved and how you can help is included in the newsletter below.
Also included below are details of our PDSC finalists in the Australian Sailing Awards – WA. Winners across all award categories will be announced at the awards ceremony on 11 September at Fremantle Sailing Club. We wish all our finalists the very best of luck!
Kylie Mawson and the PDSC Management Committee are working on a social calendar for the season which includes a Reggae themed social event in January 2027, along with regular cocktail afternoons/evenings, along with our fish and chips and pizza meal nights. The Committee puts in a lot of work to make these events happen, so please support. The more support the club gets the more social functions and opportunities it can provide. Also if you are willing to help out with social functions please let myself or another Flag Officer know.

Perth Dinghy Sailing Club is incredibly proud to announce that we are a finalist for Club of the Year – Category B in the Australian Sailing Awards – WA! 
This recognition is a true testament to the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to our club. PDSC is proudly volunteer-run, and it is our volunteers who make our club, our events and sailing possible week after week.
From those on the water, behind the scenes, on the committee, maintaining the club, supporting our juniors and families, running the canteen and bar, and everything in between, thank you!

Tom Burt has also been announced as a Finalist for Volunteer of the Year in the Australian Sailing Awards - WA .
This is an incredible and well-deserved recognition of Tom’s decades of dedication, commitment and service to our club and to sailing. Tom has given so much to PDSC.
He is one of those people who is always there helping, supporting, sharing his knowledge and doing whatever needs to be done to keep our club and our sport moving forward.
Being recognised as a finalist for Volunteer of the Year is a wonderful acknowledgement of the countless hours he has given to the sailing community.

The late Don Devine, Life Member of Perth Dinghy Sailing Club, has also been nominated as a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Sailing Awards – WA.
This nomination recognises Don’s incredible contribution to Perth Dinghy Sailing Club and the wider sailing community, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind through his dedication, passion and service to the sport.
Don has also been nominated for the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame nomination is a separate process from the Australian Sailing Awards, with the outcome to be determined independently.
We are incredibly proud to see Don’s contribution recognised in both processes and will keep our members and sailing community updated as we hear more.
A truly deserving recognition for a remarkable contribution to sailing.

Congratulations to Alice and Klara Travlos, who have been nominated by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for Team of the Year in the Australian Sailing Awards – WA!
We’re incredibly proud to see two sailors who started their sailing journey with Perth Dinghy Sailing Club in our Jay Dee fleet now competing at an international level in the 29er.
It’s fantastic to see how far they have come and a wonderful testament to the foundations built PDSC sailing.
Best of luck, Alice and Klara! We’ll be cheering you on!

| Membership Renewal 2026/27 |
Membership renewal for the 2026/27 season is now open.
This year, the Committee has made the difficult decision to increase membership fees slightly due to the ongoing increases in operating costs. The Club continues to experience rising expenses, particularly for insurances and utilities, and these increases need to be reflected in our membership pricing.
We have also had to make an adjustment due to changes to our membership platform. The platform can no longer pass transaction fees directly on to individual members during the payment process. As a result, these costs must now be absorbed by the Club.
The positive news for members is that there will be no additional surcharge for processing membership payments online.
To make the renewal process as simple and efficient as possible, we ask all members to complete their membership renewal directly online.
We thank all our members for their continued support and understanding, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2026/27 season.

Canteen Help Required
A big thank you to Jenny Kerman, who has done a fantastic job running the shop over the past few years. We are very grateful for all the time and effort Jenny has put into keeping the shop operating for our members.
With Jenny now stepping down, we are seeking one or more volunteers to help coordinate the shop for the 2026/27 season. Should we not have a Coordinator the shop will remain closed for the season.
The shop is an important revenue stream for PDSC. Along with the bar, it provides an important service to our members while helping the Club keep membership fees affordable. Without the shop operating, the Club will face a significant shortfall, which could mean considerably higher membership fees in the future.
Ideally, we would like to have a small team of volunteers share the responsibility, so that no one person needs to be at the shop every week.
What does the Shop Coordinator involve?
The role includes:
- Ordering and purchasing supplies
- Picking up supplies as required
- Coordinating the shop volunteers rostered on Saturday
- Ensuring the shop is adequately stocked and operating smoothly
- Completing a food handling safety certificate.
You do not need to join the PDSC Management Committee to be a Shop Coordinator. We are simply looking for members who are willing to lend a hand and help keep this valuable Club service operating.

Fundraising Campaign - Australian Sports Foundation
Perth Dinghy Sailing Club Men's Changeroom Refurbishment Fundraising Campaign
Help Us Refurbish Our Men's Changerooms
Perth Dinghy Sailing Club is launching a fundraising campaign to refurbish our men's changerooms and bring this important club facility up to a modern, practical and welcoming standard for our members and visitors.
Our changerooms are an essential part of the club, used every sailing weekend by juniors, families, youth and adult sailors, as well as visiting sailors attending regattas and major events. After many years of use, the facilities are now in need of significant refurbishment.
What We Are Planning
The refurbishment will include:

New floor and wall tiling to improve the appearance, cleanliness and longevity of the facility.

Modern shower cubicles to replace the existing open shower arrangement, providing improved privacy and functionality.

New urinals to replace the ageing existing facilities.
-
New sinks and basins to modernise the amenities.
-
General improvements to create a cleaner, more functional and welcoming changeroom for everyone who uses our club.

This weekend we become a storage zone for Perth Boat Show Trailers again. We are expecting slightly more than previous years. Please be mindful of them on the i14 lawn over the weekend.

Please note Boat Stoage spots will be in high demand again this season
To qualifiy for a storage spot you must

Be a Sailing Member (Full Sailing Members, Student Members,Intermediate Members, Junior Members, and Life Members of PDSC)

Relevant Boat Registration Fee must be paid

Relevant storage fee must be paid.
Boats are allocated storage by the PDSC Management Committee the process for allocation is outlined in our boat storage policy on our website
Any boat which occupies storage space in the club boat shed and is not sailed for four consecutive club sailing weeks shall forfeit the right to use that storage space and may at the discretion of the Management Committee be removed from storage.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) has received a development application from the Public Transport Authority (PTA) for the Ferry Operations.
The full proposal is available online, and it is open for public feedback.
Please note the proposed route and speed exemptions are unconfirmed and unapproved at this stage.
