O’pen Bic

This international class boat has only recently been introduced to Australia and the state. However in saying that, at its inaugural nationals, 44 boats competed with sailors representing all states except one (Click for photos from the Nationals). The fleet in Perth is growing with ‘Bics’ sailed from our club, Mounts Bay and East Fremantle.

The design of the O’pen Bic gives young sailors a true glide machine for real excitement on the water. The boat is made of durable materials with handles moulded into the design. It is self draining and simple to rig, in fact it can be rigged in about two minutes.

The aim of the O’Pen Bic is to energise sailing providing serious and fun components.

Why has the club decided to promote this class?

  • It looks good
  • It is robust
  • No bailing
  • It is fun to sail

To help with the establishment of the fleet, the club have purchased four O’Pen Bics that can be leased for 5 -  7 weeks with an opportunity to then buy them at very good price. So why not be one of the first to join this fleet at our club?

The club is providing training specifically for the Bics every Saturday morning and then the sailors may compete in a race or wait until the afternoon and join the larger fleets for a race.

The Bic encourages FUN and part of their programme of events is a freestyle event where the children must create and demonstrate skills of balance etc. Below are examples of these. Can you spot the Tail sink, Hood ornament and the King Kong?
